A MESSAGE FOR YOU
Lucio Fontana, Concetto Spaziale
We are all inextricably connected, yet separated by dysfunctional social and economic practices, systems, and policies. With so many man-made advancements in science and technology, it is remarkable that humankind rarely sees, recognizes or appreciates just how deeply entwined we are and the world really is: both wondrous and appalling.
We live in a time full of challenges and contradictions. Civil unrest, war, gun violence, nuclear warfare, sexual exploitation, racial divide and ecological catastrophes have become an everyday reality. While this presents us with enormous potential to create positive change, we must first address the magnitude of problems confronting us. But where do we start?
The answer lies within us. We need to look inwards and cultivate higher levels of love - for others, for ourselves - and compassion by first accepting ourselves for who we are and no longer projecting our fears and insecurities onto others. It is only by confronting our own demons that we can come together to forgive and to heal.
In an ever-changing world, love needs to be the binding agent and guiding force for embracing, appreciating and celebrating a wide variety of cultures, ethnicities and groups, races, religious beliefs, socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities. The innumerable aspects of our humanity are all summed up by the one concept of diversity and it is through diversity that we can address the educational, cultural and societal needs of today and of future generations to come.
Just as our differences can separate us, they can unite us. It is through each other's diversity, we become more aware of our own.
We are all differently the same. Let diversity be our strength. Let diversity be part of our collective future and destiny.
