A MESSAGE FOR YOU
The fashion industry is plagued with many issues that need to be addressed. From consumer desires and delivery times to the volume and show frequency (and who the shows are targeting) to the insurmountable amount of content that brands are generating, everyone seems to be doing what they believe is best for themselves — which is tearing the community apart at its seams. It’s every man for himself, stifling creativity and innovation and, along with it, any chance for new talent to emerge.
In short, we are a fractioned community that desperately needs to come together.
While we may not be able to bring about world peace in these tumultuous times full of disruption, we do hold the power to inspire. We are an industry that strives for beauty, but we have to remember that we stand for much more. We should remember that our ability to create can help galvanize a community — it has in the past and we need to take that power and focus it inward. We have seen the fashion community come together time and again to combat AIDS, racism, xenophobia, and immigration policies. The time has now come for the community to come together for its own sake. Consumers, designers, editors, and retail buyers all need to do their part to address present day challenges, spark change and develop solutions for the future. If there’s magic to be made, and changes to enact, it must start from within.
Let us conquer, not divide.
